Soul Cycle West Hollywood is a claustrophobic nightmare imported from NYC

Los Angeles, CA

As I walked through the entrance of Soul Cycle on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, CA, (310-657-7685) it looked like a cross between a retail clothing store and a bowling alley front desk, with what looked like rows and rows of bike shoes, behind the desk. Soul Cycle is a New York import into LA made for the spinning enthusiast with a fat wallet.

Soul Cycle West Hollywood

The front room with the check in desk looked very white and very clean, and the staff was very eager to please and very knowledgeable about spinning. I was offered everything from bike shoes, water bottle, towels, chewing gum, ear plugs, and even a cupcake. While I brought my own SPD clip bike shoes, the staff recommended I try their Look Delta clip bike shoes. Bike shoes are required to spin at Soul Cycle (free for first class, and $3 rental afterwards, per class).  The clothing available for purchase was shirts that I was told last longer, and made to sweat and wash without being destroyed. Does that quantify the extremely high prices of $44-$77 dollar price range? The staff said, cheaper t-shirts are coming.

Soul Cycle Rules

After leaving the front room, I saw some suggested rules on the wall that mentioned because of closeness of bikes, that a strong odor ruins the spinning experience for those around you. Another rule mentions to treat the staff with respect. While the last of the rules deal with spinning etiquette which calls for no talking during the class and no texting or using cell phones while the class is going on. Something else I saw just about everywhere on the walls was framed press clippings from newspapers and magazines. (No doubt a publicist was hired, who did a really spectacular job) The website contains what seems like hundreds of press clippings and TV footage.

I made my way to the locker area, which I learned was unisex and an open area made for men and women to use at the same time. There are about 100 or more lockers that don’t need a key or lock, because they have it built in. The locker area is a very tight space and is very uncomfortable because I am used to separate locker room for men and women, and one with a bathroom, and space to undress and change my clothes. Soul cycle locker area is not a changing room, but a place to change your street shoes and maybe lock up your purse or keys and cell phone.  I recommend coming dressed and ready to spin, and get used to leaving with wet clothes and socks while waiting to shower at home, though I would never leave like that.

For those willing to go through the hassle of showering at Soul Cycle LA, they do have separate men and women small bathrooms with 1 toilet, 1 shower and 1 sink. Amenities include, large shower towels, hair blower, deodorant, disposable razors, hair spray, Q tip’s. The shower has shampoo, conditioner and body wash.  Plastic laundry bag was also available.

I took my belongings out of the locker, walked to the bathroom, and was lucky enough to have the little bathroom to myself, but I could not lock the door. Women kept trying to open the door and see if anyone was in the men’s bathroom. It could have been the cleaning staff, but it was still disturbing me. When I got out of the shower, I saw the bathroom had large towels to use for showering. I started drying off, when a man entered the bathroom and started changing in the same small space that I was trying to change. That became very awkward. He asked why I was staring at him, and I said it’s like you completely ignored that I was here first and trying to change in the same place. When I got out of the bathroom to get the rest of my belongings in the locker area, I could not enter, because there was so many people using the space.

I entered the room for spinning and saw about 45 Schwinn spin bikes, which had nothing special on them (besides branding stickers on the fly wheel and frame), and reminded me of the bikes I used more than 5 years ago, with a handlebar that I could not put my water bottle into, and adjustments that were not lettered or numbered for a quick adjustment. In the old days, we had to count holes, and that’s the way it still is at Soul Cycle. The bikes are all numbered, and you can reserve for the whole week by paying in advance. Bikes 5-10 are front row, in front of the instructor, who has a bike facing us on a platform. The plastic holders on the side of the bike cannot hold a large bottle and seem to work best with a 23.7 ounce bottle or smaller. In boxes next to the instructor platform are weights, gel seats, towels. The wall behind the instructor is mirrored, and the wall behind the bikes have a huge photo encompassing the entire back wall of a road. The side wall has a saying or mantra of Soul Cycle. The mantra is also available on t-shirts.

The instructors are well trained have a high energy, and have you doing much more than riding. They work the upper body with varying positions and weights, and Soul Cycle says they actually work the entire body. The class I was in had a couple of hills, some sprints and upper and lower body workouts, with small weights. The instructor appeared to be using around 60% intensity on her bike on the hills and did not stress more of her class. I was told by staff, the instructors include visiting instructors from NYC, special classes with music themes like GLEE themed music.

Maybe Soul Cycle customers come because the prices are so high per class, that it makes it very exclusive, or maybe Soul Cycle attracts celebrities. Others think that Soul Cycle is attractive only because it’s so new, and the rich want to try new things. When the rich realizes that instructors are better or the same at much less expensive places (like Crunch on Sunset crunch is a much better place to spin than soul cycle because it has superior instructors Edward, Bob, Andrew, Teri Ann, Derek, Matt, Kirk, Tommy, Ryan, Colin, Christina, Brian and Beth. Better bikes, better locker room, better music, better staff, better atmosphere, better sound system, better mood lighting and a better price) Soulcycle will not always be so new anymore, that it will either have to change its prices or close within a year (depending on their lease). Some spinning only facilities do make it a couple years, but let’s be realistic, Soul Cycle opened in the same small complex as the exclusive Equinox, that’s entrance is only a few feet from Soul Cycle’s entrance, and Equinox has reserved bikes online as well. I really don’t understand what attracts people to this claustrophobic nightmare called Soul Cycle. I didn't buy into any of the spiritual or soul stuff that they were trying to push in the media, but I did sweat, had a good workout, and liked that the bikes were in good condition because they were so new.

My overall experience felt like a small NY sweatshop, full of people in a very tight space. I was told by the staff that the NY locations are even smaller.

Raw Food and Vegans of Los Angeles say nothing about radiation in their food supply

10021 NY socialites may be scratching their heads as to why anybody would want to live in LA, even though they can avoid snow and cold weather.

After the Japan earthquake, and explosions in the nuclear reactors, it was only a matter of time before the radiation went airborne. FACTS: Radiation landing all over the United States and food supply testing positive for radiation contamination, leaves one to wonder why haven't the vegans and raw food fanatics flipped out?

If a person that meticulously watches not only what they eat, but even the temperature it is stored and prepared does not totally flip out at the knowledge that their organic fruits and vegetables are now contaminated, than either they are on some heavy medication to dull their senses, or they have not been informed. Is ignorance bliss?

Even if the vegans, raw food addicts and health nuts bought out all the sea kelp, potassium iodide and or nutritional supplements to remove metals in their body, how long would they need to keep taking them if the radiation is in the food supply as well as the air and the water they drink. Can a water filter remove radiation? Could it be time to move away from LA? Would people welcome LA nuts to their community?

Whats more is that, if the vegans and raw food fanatics food supply is contaminated, it also means they are contaminated with radiation from Japan.

Scientists talk about negative effects of radiation in terms of dosage. If the dosage is constant and in the food supply, as well as in our cells, what is truly the consequences?

In LA, there is not much discussion on this topic while in NY, people might feel untouchable?

How does this effect NY socialites in 10021 and LA socialites? Did the billionaires in Los Angeles fly out of town while all this blows over? How long does it take to remove radiation contamination from the water? They might be out of town for a long time.

Lesbian Misdirection repairs lindsay lohans image and career

A quick lesson in damage control, and controlling your image.
Written by Rob Tencer

Damage control and image consultant public relations: now that lindsay lohan is gay, you don't hate lindsay lohan anymore, do you?

Now that lindsay lohan has gone public that she is a lesbian, she has wiped her slate slate clean of all her other bad behaviors of public intoxication, driving under the influence of narcotics and alcohol, and all her bad days of addictions to drugs and alcohol, and all her box office bombs, that made it extremely hard to get another job acting.

wiipedia defines misdirection as a form of decption in which the attention of an audience is focused on one thing in order to distract its attention from another.

The ruse or con or deception was pure genius in its ability to misdirect everything bad that people know about lindsay lohan and replace it with her lesbian relationship with samantha ronson. This misdirection was designed to grab public support from the powerful gay and lesbian entertainment community and help the public forget anything negative about lindsay lohan.

Is this con working?
front page cover stories of magazines covering the lindsay lohan lesbian relationship with samantha ronson and much space in newspapers has been devoted to this story. Everyone from Page six to the LA Times has covered this story. This is proof of success and popularity.
lindsay lohans career has been resurrected via this image makeover.

The secret is to party in total privacy.
Its a very good thing that some mage consultant who specializes in damage control (like rob tencer public relations) taught lindsay lohan the art of keeping total privacy. For the misdirection to work, lindsay would not have to stop her addictions to alcohol and pharmaceutical prescription drugs, but only use them in private.
Some other great advice for lindsay lohan would be to only use them at home or in a private residence and if she goes out to always hire a driver, ride a limo or take a taxi instead of driving herself. So far, this is all working according to plan.

What's next? Adoption?
The only thing left now for the happy couple of Lindsay lohan and Samantha Ronson to do is to adopt. This would help to continue to distort the facts and to misdirect what we already know about lindsay lohan. Why Adopt? This would further soften her image and make people love her, while gaining instant news and press fodder. the purpose would be to make lindsay lohan more likeable.

What about samantha ronson?
while we know the profound positive effects that this image makeover has had on lindsay lohan, we don't know how this is going to help samantha ronson and her career. Could this be a selfless deed born out of love for lindsay lohan? Is samantha ronson finding herself getting better bookings as a club DJ and is she making more money from the spotlight?

Does the GAY misdirection help careers?
look no further than the master of misdirection, the late doug henning. Doug was always viewed as a hippee with a smile, but if you looked deeper you would always see doug with a rainbow and appearing as gay as possible. Doug henning was a great magician and master of misdirection. truth be told, doug was happily married to a woman named debbie. If you would have asked anyone, they would have told you with full certainty that dug henning was gay.

why didn't Wonderland center work for Lindsay Lohan?

the number one reason wonderland did not work for lindsay lohan is that it was to close to her comfort zone of enablers and places she could easily get drugs and alcohol. another reason linday lohan failed at this center was she was not serious about getting better. Had lindsay lohan have stayed in wonderland center, she would have received individualized programs including a "sober companion" like rob tencer, to accompany starlets on set. The cost is around $40,000 for one month. Can you blame the sober companion if lindsay keeps enablers around her at all times, like her mother who is on payroll? The center offers the following activities: a state-of-the-art gym, yoga, hiking.

When you get so messed up and high that you don't know the crimes you just commited, you know you are in trouble. take a look at this dramatization, of someone who got high .

Even though you have a career in hollywood, you must get away from the comfort zone, and distance yourself from your enablers. Getting a good Sober Companion like rob tencer can save your life, save your career, and make life worth saving.

Getty Images Agrees to Acquire WireImage, a Renowned Brand in Entertainment, Event and Celebrity Imagery

Move Boosts Company's Capabilities in Fast-Growing Category

SEATTLE, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It's no secret. Now, more than ever, the world is fascinated with images of celebrities, entertainers and athletes. So much so, in fact, that it's become one of the fastest growing categories in the visual content business. Today, Getty Images, Inc. (NYSE: GYI), the world's leading creator and distributor of visual content, is announcing an acquisition that will support the company's stated strategy of accelerating the growth of its editorial imagery business.

Getty Images announced that it has entered into an agreement to purchase WireImage, one of the leading creators of entertainment and event imagery, for approximately $200 million in cash. The deal also will include MediaVast, Inc. the owner of WireImage, and sub-brands FilmMagic and Contour Photos. The acquisition is subject to regulatory review and other customary closing conditions.

"The demand for entertainment, event and celebrity imagery is growing exponentially, and Getty Images has determined that there are great growth opportunities in the category," said Jonathan Klein, co-founder and CEO of Getty Images. "A key focus for us in the last several years has been to grow our editorial imagery business, particularly in international markets. The proposed acquisition of WireImage will enable us to develop new products and services, including podcasts, editorial video, multimedia, mobile, consumer offerings and exclusive imagery. We are confident that the proposed acquisition will help us expand our global entertainment and celebrity imagery business, allowing us to satisfy growing customer demand in the U.S. and abroad."

Under the agreement, WireImage's founding photographers and key executives have signed long term agreements to remain with WireImage and Getty Images following the acquisition.

The acquisition will bring together two leading innovators within the entertainment imagery category. Getty Images has made entertainment and celebrity imagery accessible to a growing global entertainment marketplace through its industry-leading Web site, featuring search in local languages and purchase in local currencies, and leads the industry in delivery speed, service and international distribution. WireImage has built a reputation for depth and breadth of entertainment coverage and has an innovative and customer-friendly Web site.

Several of the companies' product offerings complement each other. For example, Getty Images' Exclusive by Getty Images offering, launched in 2006, and MediaVast's Contour Photos will combine to give customers unprecedented access to celebrity portraiture and compelling editorial features.

The business of entertainment imagery has grown significantly in recent years, and like the many other players in the space, Getty Images has benefited. The company has targeted this category for continued growth, especially in non-English speaking countries, and the acquisition of WireImage is expected to help the company expand the entertainment and celebrity imagery segment.

Getty Images plans to maintain MediaVast's three brands: WireImage, FilmMagic, and Contour Photos, and its Web sites. WireImage's team and Getty Images will continue to generate new imagery for their respective collections and make it available for online distribution, both in the U.S. and globally.

"We are very excited to be joining Getty Images," said Jason Nevader, co-founder and CEO of MediaVast. "Under the Getty Images umbrella our customers will be able to take advantage of Getty Images' global, localized e-commerce platform. Getty Images' breadth of products and services, including their vast archival collections, will give our customers more choice and richer, more accessible content."

The company estimates, on a preliminary basis, that the acquisition will be neutral to earnings per share, excluding amortization, in 2007 and accretive to earnings per share on a GAAP basis in 2008. WireImage's portfolio includes an online archive of over 8.5 million images. The company has about 230 employees and offices in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Las Vegas, London, Hamburg, Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney, Madrid, and Amsterdam.

This is why David Beckham will never be a superstar in the USA

It's one thing for a man to have a ponytail in his dyed blond hair, but its completly another to be seen and photographed with a man purse. This is pure poison for building an image in the USA. Because of this photo, no other image can take the place of what people already think, when they see it. His emotion free wife, has no affect, as she seems to care more about herself than anyone else. If they have boys, why make them look like girls, with long blond hair?

When we think of reality shows about family life, we think of Bobby and Whitney, Britney and Kevin, and even Jessica and Nick. For Victoria to have a reality camera crew follow her around Los Angeles, it will only alienate them and make them be a bigger joke of a family that does not belong on this side of the pond.

If you want to be more american, have a coke and a smile, victoria.
